Happy New Year!
A very clever client encouraged me to tell more stories in our e-newsletters. He shared that the stories should be fun and quick and about interesting people. I think that's some good advice. I'm going to give it a go and see how you like it.
I’d like to tell you the story of Michelle, Mark, and Bianca; they are our friends who own and operate Ten Degrees Chocolate -- a bean to bar chocolate factory, bistro, and dessert lounge down off 17th Ave SW.  Michelle and Mark are married, and Bianca is Mark's sister -- so it's truly a family affair.

This trio loves chocolate. They've been roasting cacao beans and making their own chocolate bars and selling them at local farmers’ markets for years.  They had plans to 'go big or go home' with their venture. They travelled the world together and met farmers and producers who grow, ferment and dry cacao beans. They visited other chocolate makers to hear their stories and learn.

They built up their skills and knowledge to the point that finally, they were ready to open their own facility here in Calgary. The team found an ideal location, ordered their chocolate making equipment, set up their supply chain and hired some amazing local talent to help them make the magic happen. They were ready to open the doors.

And then came co-vid.  And we all know how that unfolded. The Ten Degrees adventure story became the Ten Degrees survival story.
They were opened and closed I believe four times in their first year of operation.  Customers came and went. Their carefully selected team members all came and went.  And yet, the trio was steadfast in their commitment to their dream -- they poured all their savings and all their hearts into keeping the business going.
And they did keep it going; call it 'German determination' (Mark and Bianca are of German descent) -- or call it 'True Grit' (that's Michelle's superpower) -- call it whatever you like, this trio is committed.

I wouldn't say they are out of the water yet -- but things are looking up. When you go by their place on Friday evenings, it is full of people and there is a buzz in the air.  The chocolate bombs are explosive -- a crowd favourite. They have a line of products going into a couple of local Sobeys stores. Their custom gift baskets are sought after by corporations and individuals. They've partnered with a local craft brewery and have their own chocolate beer.

Ten Degrees Chocolate is unique, it's quality, it's Calgary.
We are ever so proud to cheer on Mark, Michelle, and Bianca in their adventure. It's our pleasure to support Ten Degrees Chocolate with signs, graphics, and lots and lots of labels!

I invite all of you to pop in to visit them at 818 16 Ave SW -- just off 17th Ave SW, behind Tomkins Park.  It's a happy place to spend an hour or so with your family and friends.
Bloggin' It!
Did you ever think that a parking lot sign could be more than just a traffic sign? Well, it absolutely can! This month in my blog, I write about Independent Glass & Contracting, a commercial glazing company owned by husband-and-wife team, Stefan Roock and Lisl Urlaceahr. I write about parking lot signs and what they mean, and how they are made.
